From an early age, Lauren (known as Loz) knew she would live an extraordinary life. She thought she would uncover some magical mystery of the universe or catch a rocket to outer space. Whatever it was, she knew it would be something that would impact the lives of others in a positive, beautiful way.
She grew up in a family of five, the eldest of three kids and the daughter of a nurse mother and military father. As a child, she loved to entertain people, sing and dance on her neighbours’ balcony, and put on plays with her outcast group of misfit but kind-natured friends. She always loved to learn and was a tomboy at heart, obsessed with riding BMXs and building high-tech Lego creations. A high achiever from a young age, she played representative basketball, dabbled in musical theatre, and placed highly in track and field sports.
Kids are mean. After changing schools early in her life, Loz was teased for her appearance and for being academically inclined. Luckily, this just fuelled her fire to define herself in other parts of life. She started her first business when she was 15, selling customised name tags for school bags, and this entrepreneurial spirit has stuck with her ever since. Lauren has always had an entrepreneurial fire in her belly.
Upon graduating from high school, Loz was accepted into university on a scholarship and planned to graduate as a software engineer. Halfway through her tertiary studies, however, she grappled with a sexual assault and the sudden onset of chronic illness and was forced to reassess her future career pathway.
Having developed a keen interest in social science and commerce, Loz started a family business with her father in the final year of her undergraduate degree.
Today, she has several business ventures, including that first business (which is still strong) and her self-branded Loz Life world that fosters her highest life values of teaching, learning, and connecting with others.
Despite battling a sea of emotional and physical obstacles, including the suicide of her first husband, a tumour in her brain, and the discovery of a congenital hole in her heart in her early 30s, Loz has overcome a lifetime’s worth of challenges. These have led her down a path of self-discovery, self-love, and, ultimately, fulfilment and gratitude. She is a true believer that life happens for you, not to you.
Having been both overweight and underweight and having struggled with depression and self-sabotage at various stages of her life, Loz is dedicated to living life to her fullest potential by applying sustainable living practices to her daily routine by way of focusing on optimising what she labels the ‘Handbrake Habits’: eating, breathing, sleeping, movement, and hydration.
As an award-winning personal trainer, life coach, group fitness and matwork Pilates instructor, weight loss coach, mindfulness specialist, former bikini fitness model, and wellness advocate, Loz is committed to transforming lives by leading her extraordinary life and inspiring others to do the same.
The Healthy Habit Hierarchy is the blueprint she uses to help her clients move from stuck to unstoppable, and this failsafe methodology revolves around the Handbrake Habits.
