Q&A with Author Jayne Craig

QA with Author Jayne Craig, Jayne

What is your book called and what is it about?

Magic and Medicine. It’s a book inspired by my spiritual journey, aimed at helping women trust their intuition and instincts and tune into the wise woman within.

Tell us more about you?

I’m a lifelong learner; the world is a fascinating place, and I love learning new skills. As such, I’ve studied many modalities and have qualifications in ECE teaching, naturopathy and herbal medicine, aromascience, postnatal doula, permaculture design, and sound healing. I’m also currently studying Irish language and Scottish Gaelic to help me get in touch with my family’s heritage and roots. I’m a total geek about plants, crystals, tarot, and books… I usually have about five books that I’m reading at once!

Let us get to know you a little better by answering these quickfire questions:

What is your favourite quote?

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better” – Maya Angelou.

What is your favourite book?

This is a tricky one, ‘cause it changes all the time, but for sentimental reasons, Anne of Green Gables is probably it.

What is your favourite podcast at the moment?

Alan Watts – Being in the Way

Who is your role model?

This also changes a lot, depending on where I’m at in life, but I admire people like Jameela Jamil, who are authentically themselves and not afraid to speak their truth and buck societal norms.

Who in your life has inspired you the most and why?

Probably each of my four children. Watching them grow and become adults has inspired me to always show up as my best in order for them to have the mother I believe they deserve.

What is your coffee order?

Soy flat white

Pet peeves?

Lack of common sense! Also people with closed minds.

What inspired you to write this book?

Lockdown was a big catalyst for me finally having the time to sit down and write. I just wanted to leave something behind for my children to know me and my heart.

How did you find the process of writing and publishing your book?

Super easy and fun! Loved the whole process and the team at Dean publishing.

What surprised you most about the writing process?

That it flowed so easily.

What do you hope the reader gets from reading this book?

I hope that they become inspired to seek the magic in the mundane and feel empowered to trust their own intuition and inner wisdom. We know so much, but we often dismiss ourselves in favour of listening to someone else.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to write a book but doesn’t know how?

Just start! Sit down and write a little each day. Don’t worry about trying to get it ‘right’, just allow yourself to have fun and find the creative flow.
