Tell us more about you?
I’m Jim Cocks, a passionate entrepreneur, business strategist and coach dedicated to helping others create a profession and lifestyle they absolutely love. After overcoming burnout in my own journey, I realised the importance of creating a business that not only thrives financially but also aligns with one’s values and contributes to a greater good. This led me to create Level Up, a community-focused coaching platform where we empower entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and create a lasting impact.

I was inspired to write Build Excite Ignite after seeing so many entrepreneurs struggle to scale their businesses without burning out. The book is my way of giving back and helping others achieve the success they deserve without sacrificing their wellbeing.
How did you find the process of writing and publishing your book?
Writing this book was a journey of self-reflection and growth. It allowed me to crystallise the lessons I’ve learnt over the years and put them into a structured format that others can benefit from. Publishing was also a breeze thanks to Dean Publishing. Ensuring the book reached the right audience required a strategic approach, but the process was rewarding, knowing the impact it could have.
What surprised you most about the writing process?
The most surprising aspect was how much clarity I gained about my own journey and principles. Writing forces you to distill your thoughts, and, in doing so, I uncovered deeper insights into what truly drives success and fulfilment.
What do you hope the reader gets from reading this book?
I hope readers walk away with a clear blueprint for building a scalable business that aligns with their values. More importantly, I want them to feel empowered to make a meaningful impact on the world without sacrificing their personal lives. The book is about creating a business that supports a fulfilling life, not the other way around.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to write a book but doesn’t know how?
Start by getting clear on the message you want to share. Break it down into key themes and outline the structure of your book before you start writing. Don’t worry about making it perfect on the first draft – just get your ideas down. Finally, surround yourself with people who can guide you through the process, whether it’s an editor, mentor, or a supportive community.
