What is your book called and what is it about?
Making Sense of Health is an analysis of the drivers of health and why we need to take preventative action to safeguard our future health.
Tell us more about you?
I am a retired medical specialist and the author of a previous book called Our Children Our Legacy. Throughout both my career and my personal life, my interests and research have been regarding all aspects of health, nutrition and exercise.

Dr David Unwin, GP Southport England
Who in your life has inspired you the most and why?
Professor Tim Noakes, Capetown, South Africa. He was brave enough to change his scientific beliefs when the evidence changed.
What is your coffee order?
Weak long black with cream.
Pet peeves?
Very loud cars and motor bikes.
What inspired you to write this book?
The desire to distill the health knowledge I have accumulated and make it available to the wider community.
How did you find the process of writing and publishing your book?
I loved the research and writing process, and I also enjoyed fine tuning it. I had fantastic assistance from Dean Publishing.
What surprised you most about the writing process?
The time that was required for the whole process, from developing the concept, refining the manuscript, all the way to the actual publishing.
What do you hope the reader gets from reading this book?
I want readers to understand the factors that:
- support the body’s normal functions
- degrade its functions
- influence our health but are outside our control
What advice would you give to someone who wants to write a book but doesn’t know how?
The desire to achieve a wish (a goal to write a book) is definitely a start. The reality involves time, research, dedication to the task in hand, a consuming passion to complete the project, and finding a team (publisher) to finesse the project.
